Co-Enzyme Q10 is an effective antioxidant and has an ability to boost animals’ immunity to bacteria and viruses. Antioxidants protect cells throughout the body from the destructive effect of oxygen radicals. Co-Enzyme Q10 (often referred to as CoQ10) occurs naturally but levels decline with age, with a corresponding decline in the efficiency of the animals’ immune system. It has also been found to protect heart muscle from damage caused by disrupted blood supply (heart attack) in dogs and to reduce blood pressure. If all that wasn’t enough good news about CoQ10, it is effective in increasing exercise tolerance and is helpful in musculo-skeletal conditions and cases of dental gum disease, and other infections. As it is produced naturally particularly in younger animals, supplementation is especially beneficial to older animals – but younger animals can benefit from it too. A dose of 1 – 2 mg per kg bodyweight is suggested.
